Mass Sankalps for the Environment

The sacred River Ganga is not just a river; she is revered as a Divine Mother who nourishes and sustains life without any expectation. She supports not only agriculture and livelihoods but also brings spiritual inspiration and inner peace to millions of people. However, despite her sacredness, the Ganga today faces serious challenges due to pollution and environmental neglect.

Recognizing that people naturally protect what they worship, Pujya Swamiji initiated the spread of Ganga Aarti ceremonies along the banks of the holy river. These spiritual gatherings help strengthen the emotional and spiritual connection between people and nature, encouraging responsibility toward environmental protection.

During the daily evening Ganga Aarti at Parmarth Niketan, Pujya Swamiji leads large groups of devotees and visitors in collective environmental pledges. Sometimes hundreds and sometimes thousands join together to take sankalps (sacred vows) to protect nature, reduce the use of single-use plastics, plant trees, keep rivers clean, and care for their communities.

These mass pledges transform spiritual devotion into meaningful action. Participants are inspired not only to adopt eco-friendly habits themselves but also to spread awareness among family, friends, and society. Through these collective commitments, spirituality becomes a powerful force for environmental conservation and sustainable living.

Clean-Up Programs

Parmarth Niketan promotes environmental care through regular clean-up initiatives held during festivals, special events, and throughout the year. Volunteers, devotees, and students come together to clean the streets of Rishikesh and the sacred banks of Mother Ganga, helping preserve the beauty and purity of the environment. Along with these large drives, Parmarth Rishikumars perform daily clean-ups in and around the ashram, setting an inspiring example of responsible and environmentally conscious living. These efforts encourage awareness, discipline, and respect for nature, reminding everyone that protecting the environment is an important form of seva and a shared responsibility for future generations.

Tree Plantations & Inspiration

Parmarth Niketan regularly organizes tree plantation drives across the greater Rishikesh area throughout the year, encouraging environmental protection and ecological balance. These initiatives bring together volunteers, students, and devotees to plant trees and contribute toward a greener and healthier future. In a unique and meaningful tradition, instead of offering conventional gifts such as souvenirs, flowers, or sweets, Pujya Swamiji presents sacred Rudraksh saplings to special guests and during major events. This thoughtful gesture inspires people to nurture nature and carry forward the message of environmental responsibility, symbolizing growth, sustainability, and a lasting commitment to caring for Mother Earth.

Gau Seva

In Indian culture, the cow is regarded as sacred and honored as a symbol of nourishment, compassion, and selfless giving. Known as Mother Cow, she provides not only for her calves but also supports humanity through milk and other nourishing products such as yogurt, ghee, and cheese. Sadly, in modern times many cows are left wandering on streets and marketplaces, often forced to survive by eating harmful waste.

Inspired by Pujya Swamiji and supported by the Divine Shakti Foundation and Ganga Action Parivar, Parmarth Niketan actively runs cow welfare initiatives. The ashram maintains a gaushala where around 75 cows are cared for with love and protection. Efforts are also underway to rescue stray cows from roads between Haridwar and Lakshman Jhula, providing them with a safe and comfortable home.
