Marriage Ceremony
In Hindu tradition, marriage is considered a sacred sanskara and a spiritual union rather than just a social ceremony. It is believed to be the coming together of two souls, joined not only for this lifetime but for many lifetimes ahead. Marriage represents a deep commitment where the bride and groom unite their hearts, responsibilities, and spiritual journeys.
During the wedding, the couple does more than simply hold each other’s hands — they accept each other’s lives with love, trust, and mutual respect. Spiritually, marriage symbolizes oneness. Two individuals become one in purpose, one in devotion, and one in their path toward growth and harmony. Their union strengthens them, allowing both partners to grow together in love and understanding.
A central part of the ceremony is the Saat Phere, the seven sacred steps taken around the holy fire. Each step represents a vow of faith, loyalty, care, and lifelong companionship. These promises are not meant only for the wedding day but are to be lived and renewed daily through actions and commitment.
At Parmarth Niketan, sacred wedding ceremonies are performed on the holy banks of Mother Ganga. Weddings may be grand or simple, traditional or personalized, according to the couple’s customs and wishes. Blessed by the sacred Ganga and the spiritual energy of the Himalayas, each marriage becomes a deeply meaningful and divine beginning of a shared life journey.
